What's changed in VinylCrate, version by version.
Version 3.0
Released July 14, 2026
Your shelf, remembered. Cataloguing tells you what you own. 3.0 tells you what you actually play.
Added
- Listening history. Every album you spin — on its own or through a crate — is logged on device. Two new surfaces use it: a Most Spun This Month card on the Collector’s Dashboard, and a Rediscover crate of records you haven’t played in a year.
- Build a crate with AI. Describe a vibe — “rainy Sunday jazz”, “workout energy” — and an on-device model assembles a themed crate from records you already own. Preview the name, mood, and matched records before saving. Available where Apple Intelligence is.
- “Spin This Today” Home Screen widget. A small or medium widget surfaces a different record each day. Tap to open that album.
- Play a crate. Tap play on any crate to drop the needle on the whole stack — each record is matched to Apple Music and played back to back through the turntable. Works from the crate screen and from CarPlay. Records not on Apple Music are skipped.
- Share your collection stats. A branded square image of your headline stats — record count, collector level, rarity tier, top artist, decade, genre, and value. Nothing leaves the device until you choose where to share it.
- Collection value over time. Insights charts your collection’s total market value with a sparkline and a 30-day trend. Snapshots are captured once a day during a lookup the app already makes, so there are no extra network calls.
- Track your own copy. Record media and sleeve condition, purchase price and date, and personal notes. The album screen shows gain or loss against the current lowest price, Insights shows Total Invested, and CSV export includes the new fields.
- “You already own this pressing.” Scanning a record you own now says so on the album screen, with a pressing comparison sheet that loads prices concurrently.
- Search your collection in place. The Collection tab filters your owned records by title, artist, genre, or style — without leaving the tab or hitting the network. Accent-insensitive.
- Actionable empty states. The Collection and Crates tabs now offer a way forward on first run (Scan a Barcode / Create a Crate) instead of a dead end.
- The Collector’s Dashboard is reachable. The full insights and value dashboard was built but unrouted; it now opens from the Collection toolbar.
Changed
- Collecting actions are more tactile, with haptics across add, remove, and wantlist.
- Less work on the main thread across sync, playback, AI, and startup.
- A SwiftUI correctness and performance pass across the app.
Fixed
- The AI crate builder no longer fails on large collections.
- Audio-session activation no longer risks a main-thread hang at launch.
- Album covers no longer get stuck on placeholders, and first-session disk caching works reliably.
- Apple Music “not found” results no longer persist for a whole session.
Removed
- The unreachable Marketplace hub.
Version 2.1
Released May 2026
- CarPlay. Browse your crates and play from the dashboard — with the scene interactive within a frame, however large your collection.
- Siri Shortcuts. Six App Intents for opening crates and albums by voice or from the Shortcuts app.
- Substantial performance work across collection loading, CarPlay connect, and playback.
Version 2.0
Released March 30, 2026
- The Digital Curator design system. A warm cream, tobacco, and scorched-orange palette replacing the earlier Warm Analog look, with editorial typography and ambient-shadow surfaces — depth without dividers.
- Featured hero. Your most recently scanned album, full-bleed with parallax at the top of the Home tab.
- Redesigned search with an inset search bar and pill filter chips.
- Top Records reworked into a magazine-style ranking with display rank numbers.
Version 1.x
January – February 2026
- AI Insights using Apple’s on-device foundation models.
- Apple Music playback through a Technics SL-1200-inspired turntable.
- Background collection sync, and OCR text scanning alongside barcodes.
- Discogs authentication made optional — the app is usable without an account.
