Dead Wax Scan
Read the run-out groove
Every record has a matrix code scratched into the blank run-out groove by the cutting engineer. It's the difference between a first press and a reissue, and it's most of what the record is worth.
A live scan, not a photograph
Point the camera at the run-out and slowly rotate the record. VinylCrate reads the etchings across frames and shows them as chips as they accumulate, so a line that's only legible for a moment isn't lost.
Guide rings keep it clean
Dashed guide rings frame the shot. Only the band between them is read, so label text and background never contaminate the result.
Identify Pressing
What it read is matched against every Discogs version of the release, ranked by confidence — with close calls flagged as co-leaders rather than presented as a false-certain single answer.
Verified pressing, and relink
A confirmed match shows as a verified-pressing badge, and you can relink your collection entry to that exact version. Play history, crates, notes, conditions, favourite flag and collection date all move with it.
What the right pressing is worth
When a verified pressing differs from the version your copy is filed under, the album page shows a live price comparison. The verified pressing is usually worth notably more.

Enter Manually sits right on the opening screen. Typed sides go through the same review, summary and Identify Pressing flow — and you can mix the two, scanning Side A and typing Side B.

Skip hunting for a barcode. On-device AI reads artist, title, label and catalog number from a record jacket, hands you an editable review card, then runs a Discogs search prefilled with what it found.

Privacy & Security
Where your data lives
Your collection is stored on your device using SwiftData. If you turn on iCloud sync it also mirrors to your own private iCloud database — scoped to your Apple Account, between your own devices, shared with no one. It is never stored on our servers.
No Tracking
VinylCrate doesn't track your behavior, listening habits, or collection details. No analytics, no profiling.
Minimal Network
Network connections only happen when you explicitly request them—syncing with Discogs or fetching album details.
Secure Auth
You connect with a personal access token you generate yourself, so your Discogs password is never entered into VinylCrate, stored, or transmitted through it. Revoke the token from Discogs whenever you like.
Your photographs stay yours
Sleeve scans, dead-wax scans and the photos you take of your own copies are never sent to us or to any third party. They sync only to your private iCloud database, and only if you turn sync on.

Photographs finally have a recovery path
Photos you took yourself previously existed nowhere but the device. Deleting the app destroyed them.
Scoped to your Apple Account
Sync is scoped to your iCloud account, which is separate from your Discogs login. Records travel between your own devices; they are shared with no one.
Your preferences follow you
Price display, view mode and sort, rarity source, AI model policy and the sound-effects group travel too. A preference already set on a device is never overwritten by an incoming one, so restoring onto a phone you had already tuned will not undo your choices.

My Photos
Discogs artwork isn't your record
It hasn't got your ring wear or your price sticker. Photograph your own copy: front and back cover, the gatefold inside, inserts, and each disc's A and B sides.
Slots worked out for you
The empty state suggests slots based on the release’s own disc count and gatefold status, so a 3-LP box set proposes Disc 1–3 Side A/B — and tapping one captures pre-tagged.
