Our Privacy Philosophy
VinylCrate is designed with privacy as a core principle. Your collection data stays on your device, and we only access external services when you explicitly request it.
Information We Collect
Information You Provide
- Collection Data: Records you add to your collection, including album information, custom crates, and favorites. This data is stored locally on your device.
- Discogs Account: If you choose to connect your Discogs account, we use OAuth authentication to access your Discogs data. We never see or store your Discogs password.
- Email Address: If you sign up for launch notifications, we collect your email address solely to notify you when VinylCrate becomes available.
Information We Do NOT Collect
- We do not track your listening habits
- We do not analyze your collection for advertising purposes
- We do not sell or share your data with third parties
- We do not use analytics to profile user behavior
How We Use Your Information
Local Storage
Your collection data is stored locally on your device using Apple’s SwiftData framework. This data is not transmitted to our servers.
Discogs Integration
When you connect your Discogs account:
- We use OAuth 1.0a authentication (your password is never shared with us)
- We access your Discogs collection, wantlist, and inventory as you request
- We fetch album information and artwork from the Discogs API
- All Discogs data is cached locally on your device
Apple Music
If you use Apple Music integration:
- We request permission to access Apple Music
- We search for albums matching your vinyl collection
- We do not store your Apple Music library data
Email Notifications
If you provide your email for launch notifications:
- We use it only to notify you about VinylCrate availability
- You can unsubscribe at any time
- We do not share your email with third parties
Data Storage and Security
Local Data
- Collection data is stored in your device’s app sandbox
- Data is protected by iOS security features
- Data syncs with iCloud if you have iCloud enabled for the app
Third-Party Services
VinylCrate connects to the following services only when you request:
- Discogs API: For album information and collection sync
- Apple Music: For digital playback of your vinyl collection
Your Rights and Choices
Access and Delete Your Data
- All collection data can be viewed and deleted within the app
- Deleting the app removes all local data
- You can disconnect your Discogs account at any time
Discogs Data
- You control what data is synced from Discogs
- You can revoke VinylCrate’s access from your Discogs account settings
Notifications
- You can unsubscribe from email notifications at any time
Children’s Privacy
VinylCrate is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the “Last Updated” date.
